Our beliefs should not be based on teachings from our fathers, but the truth that our mind has logically reached based on firm knowledge
There is a wrong notion that most people use in reaffirming their wrong doings and that is to use this argument that since our parents did it this way, we are allowed to follow their foot steps. Although children of a muslim parents are automatically muslims, this doesn’t mean their faith is totally complete. Quran and teachings of Islam insists on researching for truth and accepting it by heart and mind, prior to completion of faith and Iman.
Many versus in Quran mention an argument on behalf of unbelievers in response to the prophets’ requests to use their logic and mind in realizing their mistakes, the unbelievers immediately say that our fathers and grand-fathers used to believe and act this way!
Bases for Accepting or Rejecting a Belief
Quran teaches that acceptance or rejection of any thought and belief must be based on Knowledge, wisdom and logic not blind following of old wrong thinking. A muslim is a person who uses his mind, the internal messenger, to evaluate beliefs and compare them to the teachings of prophets, the external messengers, and accept those beliefs that match.
Of course using the correct logic and proper knowledge and upbringing is a must for proper evaluation by the mind.
Once a person surrounds his mind for the logical wisdom, his father becomes Ibrahim the first muslim prophet. Muslim means a person who is surrendered himself to the truth and just God.
Elmol Yaqeen
Faith based on firm knowledge and understanding is the first step in Islamic Mystism, Erfan ol Moqarabeen.
